History
The Emengini Institute for Comparative Global Studies was conceived by Ifeanyi Menkiti. Until his death in 2019, Menkiti was emeritus professor of philosophy at Wellesley College, having taught philosophy there for more than forty years. Besides being an accomplished philosopher, Menkiti was also a poet known and admired by people in different parts of the world.
His contribution and support to the humanities, which he considered a veritable source of wisdom for dealing with complicated challenges of mankind, is clearly documented in the cultural work of the Grolier Poetry Foundation and Forums Trust which he set up to encourage poets and poetry. Menkiti set in motion the process to lunch the Emengini Institute before his death. The work done at the Institute is a continuation of Menkiti’s legacy and dream for a better global society. The Institute is funded by the Menkiti Foundation and is a 501(c) 3 charitable organization in the United States of America.
